From Me to You

This week I had the opportunity to preview the film “The Peaceful Warrior” Scheduled to be released in June 2007. It’s the story of Dan Millman’s Satori (epiphany). He was a stereotypic college student, gymnast, playboy who bragged that he never had to sleep alone if he didn’t want to do so. He met a man who helped to guide him to himself – his real self – his spiritual self.

It was fascinating watching him because in many ways, I was watching myself … not the college, gymnast, player … the human who thought he was only human and that’s all there was. And the human who struggled to find what is real in this life. And the human who fought against change and expansion. And the human who was clueless about life. I doubt that I was the only one in that theater feeling that she was watching herself. And it made me laugh, not at his struggles, at how predictable we are. We have this narrow vision of the world and we define life and our world by that narrow vision. And we miss most of what is going on around us.

When the movie is released this June, I encourage you to see it. I believe it can be life-changing … if one is ready for such things. The most important part for me was at the end and it truly changed my life. So I’ll share it with you.

This conversation takes place in Dan’s mind. As Dan is challenging his physical body, he hears his guide ask him: Dan, where are you?

Dan replies: Here.

And the guide asks: What time is it?

Dan replies: Now

And the guide asks the last question: Dan, who are you?

Dan replies: This moment.

A few days later I attended a class at Stillwaters Yoga. I was being challenged to move into a particular position and I was struggling. I wanted to do it “right.” And I wanted to hear my instructor say, “Good job, Carolyn!” And then I remembered Dan and the movie and the struggle and all my struggles and I said to myself: “Carolyn, where are you?” And I answered: “Here.” And “What time is it?” “Now.” And “Who are you?” “This moment.” Suddenly no one else existed or mattered.

I am this moment.

Blessings for peace to you. Carolyn
